While there are numerous wildlife sanctuaries located throughout Belize, where those interested in birdwatching can go to look for some of these showy species on their own, guides can provide a wealth of knowledge, experience, and information on bird species that isn't available while touring alone. The tour at Caves Branch Jungle Lodge goes a step further. They provide binoculars for those on the tour, and carry a large high-powered spotting scope, which sets up quickly and gives birdwatchers an opportunity to see the birds from a very detailed and up-close perspective.

The jungles and rainforests of Belize contain over 550 species of birds. About 80% of these species are local, meaning that birdwatchers can expect the presence of a large number of often colorful bird species year-round. These guides are more than hike leaders; they can also apply their experience to finding more species based on those birds' routines and can often identify birds based on appearance or their unique songs.

This birdwatching tour, located in Central Belize's jungle highland rainforest, walks throughout the lodge's 15-acre property, meaning that while birdwatchers are in an area with very little development, they are also a short walk to bathrooms and facilities if they are needed for any reason.

Over the course of a 2-hour tour, watchers may see well over two dozen different bird species. Guides lead with an infectious excitement, pointing out birds that would have been hidden or otherwise invisible. They are able to expand upon the feeding, mating, and nesting habits of many of the birds as well. Taking place at Caves Branch Lodge, birdwatching tours are open to those not staying at the lodge.
