Ambury Foreshore Path is an easy hike located in Ambury Regional Park. This trail travels through a pasture and along the coast of the Manukau Harbour. This loop is 1.4 miles long and gains just 45 feet of elevation.

This hike starts from the Ambury Regional Park parking lot. Ambury Regional Park is home to a working farm and offers educational opportunities. From the parking lot, begin hiking north. The trail is mostly grass and can be hard to follow at times, but there are yellow markers to guide you. After hiking for about 100 yards, you will reach a large picture frame that is great for photo opportunities. Continue for another 150 yards until you reach a gate. Pass through the gate to enter an active pasture that may have livestock grazing.

Along the trail there are many informational signs. After you have made it 0.3 miles from the parking lot, you will come to a point on the shores of Manukau Harbor. You will have great views of the harbor. Māngere Mountain is also visible. Continue along the trail near the coast of Manukau Harbor. This is a great opportunity to see some of New Zealand’s birds such as Black Swans and Austrailasian Swamphens. 0.6 miles of hiking later, the trail will turn to the east. Here, you will have a great view of Puketutu Island. 0.2 miles later, turn left and pass through a gate. You will now hike 0.2 miles past pasture and farm building to return to the parking lot.

Ambury Regional Park is open for hiking year-round. It is accessible to pedestrians at all times. Vehicles can access the park from 6am-9pm in the summer and 6am-7pm in the winter. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are not allowed on this trail. The Ambury Foreshore Path is a wonderful and leisurely way to explore one of Auckland’s scenic parks.
