Queensland's Sunshine Coast evokes images of spectacular sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. However, there are hidden gems nestled in the lush green hills that serve as a beautiful backdrop to the region's beaches. One of those gems is Kondalilla Falls in the Kondalilla National Park.

The trail starts from a picturesque picnic spot at the park's entrance and weaves through series of sub-tropical rainforest groves. As the trail approaches the top of the 80-meter Kondalilla Falls, the surrounding forest gradulally thins out as the richness of the rainforest gives way to the more typical dry east coast bushland.

As you look north down the valley below the falls, the lasso-shaped trail splits, offering you the choice of a clockwise of counter-clockwise trip from top to bottom of the falls. The clockwise option (left fork) will take you first to the pools at the top of the falls before descending, while the alternative will have you descending a series of steps down to the base of the impressive falls before ascending through some of the region's most lush and dense rainforests.

Complete your chosen loop to return to the trailhead. Note that there is no potable water here, so come prepared, especially in summer.
