Encanto Park is a beautiful green space within the city of Phoenix.  Just north of downtown the park offers a place for visitors to enjoy the outdoors in the heart of downtown.  The park is 222 acres and includes a variety of activities.  The park includes an 18-hole and 9-hole golf course and a public swimming pool.  For people who enjoy racquet sports there are 8 tennis courts, 8 racquetball courts and 3 pickleball courts that are all lighted.  This is also a popular place for sporting leagues as there is a lighted football and softball field.

There is also an abundance of covered picnic tables that surround a playground.  Throughout the park there are plenty of grassy spaces and dispersed benches and tables for people to enjoy.  While there are no designated trails in the park there are numerous paved paths and compacted gravel paths throughout the park.  The paths wide through an area that is known as the lagoon that covers roughly 7.5 acres.  The lagoon is open to fishing and fishermen can fish up to the posted daily limits.  Swimming is prohibited in the lagoon but there are pedal boats available for rent.

The park is also home to Enchanted Island, a small amusement park that includes pedal boats, train rides, carousels and more.  *Note there is a fee for the amusement park.

The lagoon is unique to Encanto Park and is a wonderful place to enjoy an afternoon.  Even in summer this park provides plenty of shaded spots to get out of the heat and has something for just about everyone. For people who are new to the outdoors the easy paths are a great introduction and there is potable water and restrooms available for use. This hidden gem in the city is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon.
