Lookout Mountain Park and Preserve is within the Phoenix Park and Recreation.  As one of the summits of the Phoenix Mountain Range, Lookout Mountain is the gem of the park and preserve.  There are two distinct areas of the Park.  There is the Preserve which contains the trails within the park and the Park which contains grassy areas as well as typical benefits of city parks.

The Preserve has several major trails that are within its boundaries.  The first is the Summit Trail which is a 2.6 mile out and back which takes hikers to the summit of the mountain.  From there hikers are graced with views of the Phoenix Mountains as well as the Four Peaks Mountains to the east.  There is also trail #308 or the Circumference Trail that is a 2.8 mile trail that circumnavigates the mountain.  There are more unmarked trails that serve as connectors to and from the surrounding neighborhoods that hikers can leverage.  For hikers looking to hike in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve, hikers can use the connector trail to reach their destination.

For other outdoor enthusiasts looking to relax at a local park there is a wonderful field to picnic on in the park.  In the park area there are also two sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, and covered playgrounds.  There are also several picnic tables, a few of which are covered.  There is also a fitness loop that surrounds the field.

The park is open from 5:00AM to 10:00PM and for hikers wishing to have access to restrooms and water they should park in the lot off 18th Street.  This will also give people the best access for use to the park area.  Hikers can use the 16th Street Trailhead to access both the summit and circumference trail and while there is a water fountain there are no restrooms.
