Sycamore Canyon spans three natioanl forests, Kaibab, Coconino and Prescott. The Sycamore Canyon Rim trail is in The Kaibab National Forest section.  The trailhead for this hike is located on National Forest Road 56.  There is a small roadside parking area.  Following the route clockwise, the trail crosses an open field and eventually reaches a shallow ravine with scenic cliffs on either side.

At about the 1.25 mile mark, the trail crosses the ravine and continues to follow the cliff edge.  At the 3 mile mark, the canyon opens up and becomes deeper.  Between the 3 mile and 6 mile mark, the canyon is wide and open.  This is a very scenic area with great views.  After the 6.2 mile mark, the trail follows an upper branch of the canyon as it turns north.  At the 7.5 mile mark there is a side trail to Pomeroy Tanks which has water and beautiful views.

At the 8.1 mile mark the trail turns sharply right away from the canyon and crosses open country with scattered ponderosa pines and gradually climbs up KA Hill.  The descent is a little steeper back down to the trailhead.
