While legally all beach areas and docks are to be publicly accessible on Ambergris Caye (see below), there are some beaches that are more inviting than others. One of these is San Pedro's Central Park. Aptly named, Central Park lies at the center of San Pedro Town.

The park has a playground, a wide sandy shore with a few palm trees, a large brick plaza with benches, and a bathroom. During the day, vendors and food stalls line the walkway beside the park, and at night several bars surrounding the park become the hub of the town's tourist nightlife. One of the water taxis docks at the pier immediately next to the beach here.

The water here is calm and warm, though the atmosphere might encourage those looking for a calm spot to swim to seek out other places. The park can be noisy and receive a lot of foot traffic. Although Central Park is among Ambergris Caye's only public beaches, and should be noted as one of the areas in the central area of San Pedro not susceptible to boat traffic.

Ambergris Caye beach rules: In Belize, the rules are such that while private residences and businesses may have beachfront land, the shoreline 60 feet in from the water belongs to the government and people of Belize and is to remain publicly accessible along with all docks for public foot use between sunrise and sunset. While erosion is a factor, and some will put up Private and No Trespassing signs, this is the spirit of beach access in Belize. Also, while anyone can access the beaches or docks, this access does not apply to things such as structures, hammocks, or chairs.
