With just a small fraction of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's annual budget going to monitoring non-game species, many species facing habitat loss and other pressures are going unmonitored. In many cases, biologists are forced to bootstrap their own equipment and volunteer their time to track how species populations are changing. In other cases, species go unmonitored, and state biologists fear a few may be slipping through the cracks.
Oregon Field Guide teamed up with OPB to produce this investigative report into the matter, which aired on the show on November 3, 2016.
