Winter is still a few months away, but we thought we'd prime the excitement pump for the crisper, chillier months ahead by announcing the winners of last winter season's Contributor Awards.

With each summer and winter season at Outdoor Project, we round out the Contributor Rewards Program by recognizing the core of the community - the Contributors who have trudged those extra miles, stayed out longer to capture that perfect photograph, and who have generally gone above and beyond in providing invaluable knowledge, blood, sweat and smiles to help build Outdoor Project into what it has become - one of the richest and fastest growing platforms for outdoor recreation and discovery.

This past Winter '16/'17 season was another incredible season at Outdoor Project. Both new and veteran contributors created over 650 adventures ranging from ephemeral desert kayak runs and Northeastern mountaineering ascents to iconic Hawaiian surf spots and diving with whale sharks.

Distilled from that wealth of adventure guides, we're thrilled to announce the Winter '16/'17  Contributor awards and prize winners. Congratulations to all and thank you to the OP Contributor community for your inspiring media and storytelling!

For those unfamiliar with the Contributor Rewards Program, the majority of content on Outdoor Project has been published by our talented contributor community. These folks are experienced photographers, videographers, storytellers, and passionate outdoor adventurers who have elected to share their expertise to help make Outdoor Project the most intuitive and comprehensive resource for outdoor recreation. In return they take part in the Contributor Rewards Program - a set of incentives that range from an end of the year cash pool distribution and outdoor gear and apparel pro deals to seasonal awards and prizes.

We'd like to extend a special thanks to our sponsors:

Mountainsmith was founded in 1979 by legendary outdoorsman Patrick Smith and was born of a need for seriously durable gear that could withstand the rigors of backcountry pursuits in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. His initial product innovation was the world’s first fully rigid backcountry ski sled to haul massive loads of gear efficiently through the harsh Colorado winter wilderness. Soon after, Patrick came up with the iconic lumbar waist pack to effectively carry gear while backcountry skiing and secured the first patent for a lumbar pack. As a company, Mountainsmith continues it’s commitment to building the best made, most durable and functional packs on the market; unmatched by anyone for their comfort, stability, value and performance in the backcountry. This tradition of legendary quality continues with a full line of outdoor products for today’s active lifestyle consumer.
