Chuckwalla Bill's Rock House can be found halfway up Long Canyon in Joshua Tree National Park's southwest corner. Bill Simmons, better known as Chuckwalla Bill, was a vagabond and prospector in the late 1800s / early 1900s.  He spent several years living in the remote area of Long Canyon (now Joshua Tree National Park) after building his little rock house there in the 1930s.

In order to reach Chuckwalla Bill's Rock House, one must hike through Long Canyon. Long Canyon runs for 12 miles between Desert Hot Springs and Joshua Tree National Park, and Chuckwalla Bill's cabin lies at its heart. Most visitors to the site plan to have two cars or a shuttle at either end to avoid hiking out-and-back.
