Set along the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River deep in the Sonora Pass area is Deadman Campground, a small campground nestled beneath the trees and views of the imposing Sierra Nevada at an elevation of 6285'.

Along with Baker Campground, the basic Deadman is the easternmost campground along the Sonora Pass highway before the road begins its steep climb to the high country of the Sierras. The campground feels far removed from nearly all signs of civilization, with the sounds of the Middle Stanislaus River and views of the Sierra mountains creating the ambiance for the area.

Sites each contain a table, food locker and fire pit with grill. Sites are set out along a loop road with room for smaller trailers and RVs. A short walking path follows the curve of the river, and the shallow area is a favorite for fishing.

Sites 12 and 13 are double size, and necessite double the fee. There are also two walk in sites, as the campground is near the trails around the Kennedy Meadows Pack Station.

Deadman Campground is open seasonally - usually from mid-April through mid-October, however the campground's open status, along with that of Highway 108, is dependent upon weather conditions.

A host is onsite. Water spigots and vault toilets serve the campground. There is an equestrian camp site located directly across the street from the campground entrance. Reaching the campground requires a half mile drive down a single lane road with several turnouts. This campground is small and a little bit harder to reach, but the beauty and desolate mountainous feel of the campground make this one of the nicest camping options in the Sonora Pass area.
