The East Hills Trail offers a quick escape from the popular Sycamore Park up a series of paths and into the wilds of the Deer Canyon Park Preserve before climbing to a hilltop offering 360 degree views of the surrounding areas.

The trail starts beside Sycamore Park and shortly begins climbing a wide dirt path that meanders between homes and open space. After descending through a neighborhood and a steep climb out of it, the trail rolls over meandering hills before reaching a fork in a shaded area. One branch of the fork wraps a quick descent to an alternate parking area of the preserve, while the other direction follows a former access road up to power line towers and a short path leading to a hilltop with near unobstructed views in each direction.

A single track trail connects the two, allowing hikers to follow a lollipop loop path. This path is more of a use trail and is unsigned and may be a bit overgrown, so hikers will need to keep an eye open for the single track as it is not immediately clear or marked, though cel service in the area tends to be good so map apps will come in useful.

Bathrooms and water are located at Sycamore Park and at the Deer Canyon Park Preserve alternate parking area near the halfway point of the hike.

At 3.1 miles, the trail contains a few steep sections and might have some muddy areas following wet conditions.
