Halfway Camp is a primitive, undeveloped campsite located in the San Bernardino National Forest near Forest Falls, California. This campsite is accessible by foot along Vivian Creek Trail. This campsite is located approximately four miles from the Vivian Creek parking area.

Halfway Camp is nestled among the pines and chaparral of the San Gorgonio Wilderness. This site is located just off the main trail and offers privacy as well as stunning mountain views. This area is equipped for tent camping only and fires are prohibited. There are no pit toilets at Halfway Camp, but they are available at Vivian Creek Trailhead.

The Vivian Creek Trail is a common trail used to summit Mount San Gorgonio Halfway Camp. A number of backcountry campsites can be found in the area, including Halfway Camp. The area has plenty of trails and towering mountains (many of which rise above 10,000ft), making it the perfect place to spend a weekend or longer backpacking.

WATER: Water may be obtained from the creek about 200 yards below the camp. All water must be filtered or treated.

GROUP SIZE: up to 12 people.

CAMPFIRES: Not allowed.

PERMITS: Backcountry/wilderness permits are required for overnight stays and day hiking within the San Gorgonio Wilderness area. Permits are free and can be obtained online. For more information regarding permits, please visit https://sgwa.org/wilderness-permits/

PARKING INFORMATION

There is ample parking at the Vivian Creek Trailhead. An Adventure Pass is required to leave a car parked overnight or for the day and these permits can be obtained in advance as well as on site. The Vivian Creek Trailhead has one, large gravel parking area that does not require a fee, but there is no guarantee that there will be space. The area is popular and spots do fill up on the weekends.

Adventure pass information can be found here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/sbnf/passes-permits/recreation.
