Hospital Flat Campground is a seasonal basic campground located about 6.4 miles up the highway from Kernville.

With 40 sites laid out along a narrow paved road that includes an accessible site and two group sites, Hospital Flat sits at a scenic bend along the Kern River. The sounds of the river rapids can be heard throughout the camp, and a few sites sit within view of the waters.

Visitors can head to a small sandy beach and river access area next to site 24, where a calm portion of the river creates a nice swimming hole. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit with grill, and water is available from spigots spread throughout the campground. Vault toilets are also set throughout the camp and visitors should be aware that there are no sinks or showers available for use.

Two notes are that sites sit nearby one another, so campers shouldn't be expecting too much privacy during weekends, and there is a little bit of poison oak throughout the brush that campers should keep an eye out for.

Hospital Flat Campground is open from about mid-May through mid-September each year. A host is onsite, though campers are asked to self pay at the entry station.
