Indian Springs swimming hole is a small swimming area just off of I-80 in the Tahoe National Forest accessible by a short path through Indian Springs Campground in the Eagle Lakes Road area of the Sierra Nevada.
Located high up on the South Yuba River, the swimming hole itself has a wide calm pool area, where you'll often find visitors floating on inflatable toys and rafts during the hotter summer months. Further upstream are a couple waterfalls into a narrow canyon area. You'll often find swimmers jumping off the rocks into the depths here. With the granite stone walls lining the river, it's possible to find rock jumps anywhere from just above the water to as high as 30' above the water's surface.
Reaching the swimming area requires walking about 100' down a dirt path. At the rocky shore, there's little shade, and if there are more than a handful of other people here - which is very common during the summer months - it can feel a little crowded on the riverbank.
There are vault toilets in the campground, however no amenities or trash at the swimming hole itself.
Parking is located at the entrance to the campground, where a self pay station gives visitors a chance to pay the $5 day use fee. Parking is also available along Eagle Lakes Road, from which you can walk down to the swimming hole.
The area is located at 5600' in elevation, so it can get and stay cold throughout the year other than during the summertime. Always check depths here before jumping as the water level fluctuates often. With the combination of little shade and high elevation, definitely remember to bring the sunblock to this one.
