The Old Paul Bunyan Road + Canyon Trail Loop is an easy 3 mile hike within Susanville Ranch Park. This hike is perfect for anyone looking to get out for a leisurely stroll and enjoy the beauty of the park. There are also options to extend the hike and explore more of Susanville Ranch Park’s 28 miles of available trails.

Begin by parking in the large lot off Meadow View Drive. From the trailhead follow the trail to the south to connect with the Old Paul Bunyan Road. When you hit this old gravel logging road turn right and follow it.

Continue following the road as it parallels Piute Creek. The surrounding terrain steepens as you continue, eventually looking more canyon like. You’ll then follow a side trail that veers slightly right and crosses Piute Creek via footbridge.

You’re now on the Canyon Trail. Continue to follow this trail as it meanders alongside the opposite side of Piute Creek.

You’ll begin to leave the canyon behind as the terrain opens up. Continue along through the meadow areas, passing a couple trail junctions, until you arrive back at the trailhead.
