Red Rock Canyon is an area that features some fascinating and beautiful rock formations. It is just a short detour off Highway 395 between Reno and Susanville, in fact the rock formations can be seen from the highway.

To access the area turn off 395 onto Red Rock Road. Continue until you see a rough access road to the left. If you have a low clearance car you can just park alongside Red Rock Road. You’ll then follow the 4x4 road on foot for less than half a mile to the base of the rock formations.

Here you can enjoy the beautiful red and white rock formations. There is also another area of colorful rock hidden around the bend to the right. Take some time to enjoy the area and practice Leave No Trace principles.
