Roy's Cafe is a historic roadside attraction located off Route 66 in Amboy, California. It is home to a 24-hour gas station, a gift shop, as well as the famous Roy's Cafe neon sign. The 50-foot-high sign at Roy's Cafe, built in the 1950s, is easily recognizable and can be seen for miles. With its bold colors and sharp shapes, this sign represents the unique motel culture found along Route 66. Both the sign and surrounding buildings are examples of Mid-Century Modern Googie architecture, which became popular in the 1940s and lasted into the 1960s.
