Seiad Valley to Crook and Green Pass Trailhead is a 28.4 mile out-and-back from Seiad Valley, nestled in the heart of Northern California, to the Crook and Green Pass trailhead and back. This trek traverses a section of the renowned Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), offering hikers an unforgettable exploration of the diverse landscapes that define this region. The journey covers a significant distance, showcasing a variety of terrains and ecosystems including stunning vistas, challenging trails, and peaceful solitude.
This route is an ideal overnight backpacking trip but can be completed as a challenging day hike or trail run. The trail is rated as moderate to challenging, suitable for hikers with some experience. The path includes moderate elevation gains and losses, with some rugged sections requiring careful navigation.
The adventure begins in the quaint Seiad Valley, a location revered by hikers for its stunning natural surroundings. The valley serves as an ideal starting and ending point, providing necessary amenities for hikers to prepare and recuperate from their journey.
From the valley, the trail ascends through dense forests and meandering rivers, offering spectacular views of the Klamath National Forest. This portion of the PCT is known for its vibrant wildflower displays in the spring and early summer.
At Crook and Green Pass Trailhead, hikers will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The pass is an excellent spot for a restful break or a scenic lunch, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the backcountry.
Water and Supplies: Carry sufficient water and a filter/purification system, as sources along the Crook and Green Pass Trail may be scarce. Pack enough food and supplies for the duration of the hike.
Camping: Backcountry camping is allowed, with several idyllic spots along the route for overnight stays. Ensure to follow Leave No Trace principles to preserve the pristine condition of the trail.
Navigation: A detailed map and compass/GPS are essential, especially for the segments beyond the PCT where trail markings may be less frequent.
