This challenging 10-mile route takes you from the Truckhaven Trail trailhead, located off S22/Borrego Salton Seaway, through the rugged Truckhaven Trail to Arroyo Salado Primitive Campground. Tucked away in Southern California’s rugged desert landscape, Truckhaven Trail offers a mix of stunning scenery and challenging terrain that attracts off-road enthusiasts, hikers, and nature lovers. The trail showcases sweeping views of the badlands, slot canyons, and unique geological formations, making it a must-see for anyone who appreciates the beauty of desert exploration. DESCRIPTION


From the Truckhaven Trail trailhead, head south along the Truckhaven Trail, navigating rocky paths and sandy washes. Truckhaven Trail is located near Borrego Springs, California, in the heart of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. This trail is a well-known destination for off-roaders, offering diverse terrain that includes sandy washes, rocky paths, and steep inclines. While primarily a 4WD trail, sections of Truckhaven are suitable for hikers and trail runners looking for a remote desert experience. Truckhaven Rocks Campground is a highlight, featuring unique rock formations.

  • Trail Type: Out-And-BackOut-and-back (option to shorten the distance and turn into a point-to-point by arranging a shuttle).

SAFETY AND CONSIDERATIONS
Cell phone service may be limited along this route. There is little to no shade or water along the route, so plan accordingly. Hikers should be prepared with plenty of water, sun protection, and navigation tools, as signage is sparse and the desert terrain can be disorienting.
