Wetlands Walk

The Wetlands Walk is an easy, paved loop trail within the Cosumnes River Preserve. At just one mile in length - with an optional short spur onto a boardwalk perched in the middle of the wetlands - this trail offers the best introduction to the preserve area and probably the most scenic path in the area.

There are two distinct areas of the trail: the shaded pond behind the visitor center and the exposed wetlands path. With the preserve being popular for birding with over 250 species of birds observed in the area throughout the year, crossing the street from the parking area and heading to the open wetlands will offer the best opportunities for observing birds, incluidng the popular Sandhill cranes which visit the preserve seasonally. 

The short out-and-back path to the boardwalk follows a narrow path between two ponds and ends at a wooden boardwalk with benches. This might be a highlight of the preserve.

In all, the entirety of the path is paved and handicapped accessible. 

The Cosumnes River Preserve is open daily from 9am to 5pm. The Visitor Center is open with varying hours. Vault toilets are available at the main parking area as well as a smaller parking area near the end of the boardwalk path. Pets are not permitted at this nature preserve.
