Kea Point Track is a short and easy hike located in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. This trail travels to a beautiful viewpoint of Mueller Lake. The trail is gravel the whole way. Kea Point is named after a species of parrot that is found in some areas of the South Island of New Zealand. This out and back hike is 1.8 miles long and gains 288 feet of elevation. 

This hike starts from White Horse Hill Car Park. There is a bathroom at the trailhead. Begin hiking west. You will be hiking gradually uphill through subalpine scrub and grasslands. After 0.3 miles, you will reach a junction and turn right onto Kea Point Track. There will be a trail map located at this junction. Another 0.2 miles down the trail, you will encounter a junction. Stay right to continue on Kea Point Track. 

Continue hiking uphill. This is the steepest portion of the trail. After about 0.4 miles, you will reach Kea Point. There is a viewing platform here with an informational sign. There is also a bench nearby. These are great places to rest and take in the stunning views. You will be able to see Mueller Lake and Hooker Valley. On a clear day, you can see Mount Sefton, The Footstool, and Aoraki/Mount Cook. Once you have taken ample time to rest up and enjoy the views, turn around and retrace your steps to return to White Horse Hill Car Park. 

Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are not allowed on this trail. Kea Point Track is a great option for hikers looking for an easy way to enjoy the breathtaking views of Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.
