Grande Cache Lake, near the town of Grand Cache, has a small public park on its shore with a boat ramp and dock. This makes the perfect launch point for a leisurely paddle on the lake. The day-use-only park also has picnic tables, fire rings with grates, a playground, and swimming area. You can choose between cooking a meal here or picnicking on a far shore, or even on the island at the lake's east end. The lake is open to fishing; both brook and rainbow trout are common. You are likely to see waterfowl, herons, ospreys, and other birds. You might catch glimpses of a moose, elk, or even a bear. Views of the Canadian Rockies surround, and most of the shore is covered in verdant boreal forest.

The lake can be very popular on warm summer days and is frequented by locals and travelers alike. It's location along Highway 40 places it on a popular route for Canadian and international roadtrippers, but lake access is maintained as a small municipal park, so be extra sure to clean up after yourself and be respectful of locals and other visitors.
