Summit Lake Campground is located in the heart of Stone Mountain Provincial Park approximately 140 kilometers west of Fort Nelson. As indicated by its name, the park sits at the summit of the Alaska Highway and at its highest point in elevation along the entire historical route. The campground is an ideal location to stop for those looking to take advantage of the many great hiking options in the immediate area or those looking to relax by the lake.

Each site features a picnic table with a fire pit and grate; however, there are no hookups available for those traveling by RV. Other amenities include a day-use area, pit toilets, garbage disposal, water well, and information pertaining to the many hiking trails close by. It is recommended to boil any water taken from the water well.

The campground is open between May 15 to September 15. It should also be noted that, given the high altitude of this location, the lake is still often frozen over in late May and early June.

Pets are welcome in the campground if they are on a leash and controlled. All fees are to be paid in cash. A park operator visits the site in the morning and in the evening will have firewood for sale for a fee of $8 per bundle. The campground is also located in an active wildlife corridor with species like moose and caribou frequenting the area often. Have your camera ready!
