Only slightly less popular than the conveniently located Second Beach, Third Beach is most definitely worth the extra effort to get there. The beach lies on the western side of the peninsula that makes up Stanley Park. It faces directly west, so it's a great destination for a romantic (though somewhat crowded) sunset viewing. Tide pools along the beach and designated swimming areas make it a great destination for families too. During summer months (late May to early September), lifeguards are present and a concession stand is open. Barbecues are even allowed with a few restrictions. Although so close to downtown Vancouver, the beach is buffered from the city noise by the densely forested Stanley Park, making it a quiet refuge. Parking is paid by the hour, but the beach lies along the Seawall, so it's a great destination for biking, running, walking, hiking, skateboarding, roller-skating, or any other type of human powered transportation options.
