The Chutes and Ladders section of BLM land is a 900 acre chunk of public land that is surrounded on all sides by private land. The close proximity to Mesa Verde National Park makes it a very popular camping spot. There are designated campsites, and you can expect them to fill by evening most days. If you are unable to secure a site, you’ll need to move on elsewhere.

There are a total of 15 sites at Chutes and Ladders. Each site is clearly marked with a signpost. The campsites do not feature any amenities, although you’ll find a small rock fire-ring at each site. There are no restroom facilities, so make sure you have a self contained toilet system or way to dispose of your waste off site.

Again, the camping here fills up quickly. Do not attempt to camp anywhere that is not a designated site, as this is not allowed.

The area is typically closed from December 1st to April 30th.
