Eagle’s Peak is a mountain peak located near the United States Air Force Academy. The hike to the summit of Eagle’s Peak is short but strenuous. This out and back hike is 3.8 miles long and gains over 2,100 feet of elevation.

This hike starts from the Visitor’s Center Parking Lot at Barry Goldwater Air Force Academy Visitor Center. There are restrooms available in the visitor center. Begin hiking west and cross Academy Dr. Continue hiking west up a dirt road. You will be able to see Eagle’s Peak from here. After 0.6 miles, you will see the start of Eagle’s Peak Trail. Continue gradually uphill on this trail as you travel through coniferous forest. The trail also parallels Goat Camp Creek.

After you have hiked for another 0.4 miles, the trail starts to get steeper. The trail is also rocky in some sections. After 0.6 miles of steep uphill hiking, you will encounter a very short section of flat hiking. The trail then gets very steep again. Another 0.3 miles will bring you the rocky summit. Getting to the summit may involve some easy scrambling. From the top of Eagle’s Peak, you will have tremendous views of Pikes Peak and various shorter mountains. You will also be able to see Colorado Springs and the Air Force Academy. After you have taken ample time to rest and enjoy the views, turn around and retrace your steps to return to the visitor center.

The Air Force Academy is open for hiking year round from 9am to 5pm. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed on this trail, but they must be on a leash at all times. The hike up Eagle’s Peak is great for an ambitious hiker looking for spectacular views.
