Fremont Peak is a mountain peak located near Cañon City, Colorado. One challenging way to access the peak is via Tunnel Drive. This out and back hike is 10.4 miles long and gains 2,339 feet of elevation.

This hike starts from the Tunnel Drive Trailhead. There are pit toilets available here. Begin hiking uphill on Tunnel Drive. After 0.1 miles the trail flattens out and travels through multiple rocky tunnels. As you hike along this wide and flat trail, you will have great views of the Arkansas River as well as the steep canyon walls. After 1.8 more miles on this trail, you will encounter a junction. Turn right onto Royal Cascade Trail. You will immediately begin hiking uphill as the trail switches back up a slope. The trail will be lined with shrubs and cacti. After 1.3 miles of uphill hiking, the trail will flatten out. Enjoy 0.3 miles of flat hiking before beginning to trek uphill once again. This section of uphill will last for 1.1 miles.

From this point, you will be able to see the summit of Fremont Peak. You will also begin a short section of downhill hiking here. This will last for 0.4 miles. You will now be hiking uphill again. After 0.1 miles, you will encounter a junction. Turn left here. 0.1 more miles will bring you to the summit of Fremont Peak. The summit is marked with a cairn and a summit register. From the top, you will have a great view of Pikes Peak to the northeast. To the southwest, you will be able to see many peaks in the Wet Mountains and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Once you have taken ample time to rest up and enjoy the views, turn around and retrace your steps to return to the trailhead.

This trail is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed on this trail.
