The Kineo Mountain Loop is a long hike located in the Pike National Forest near Colorado Springs. This route to the summit is a bit more strenuous than the most popular route. This hike is 12 miles long and gains 2,897 feet of elevation.
This hike starts from Ring The Peak Portal 10 parking area. There are no amenities at the trailhead. Begin hiking southwest on High Drive. This is a wide trail that travels amongst trees and parallel to Bear Creek. You will be hiking uphill. After 1 mile, turn right onto Bear Creek 666 Trail. This trail will continue to parallel Bear Creek. Continue uphill on this trail for 1.9 miles. This will bring you to a junction. Turn right onto Kineo Mountain Trail. Hike gradually uphill across a slope. The trail is lined with trees. After 2.3 miles, turn left onto an unmarked, but well-traveled trail. This will lead you to the summit of Kineo Mountain. 0.4 miles on this trail will bring you to the summit of Kineo Mountain.
From the summit, you will have views of Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak, and various Front Range peaks. From here, retrace your steps to return to the junction with Bear Creek 666 Trail. Go straight here onto Captain Jacks Trail 667. Hike downhill on this trail for 0.8 miles. Then you will come to a junction and turn left onto High Drive. Continue downhill on this wide trail. After 1.4 miles, you will come to another junction. Turn right to stay on High Drive. Follow this trail back to the trailhead.
Pike National Forest is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed on this trail, but they must be on a leash at all times.
