This easy hike combines portions of the Valley Floor Trail and Telluride Bike Path to form a 3 mile loop. You’ll follow the San Miguel River for the first portion, then cross the valley and return via the paved bike path.

The loop can be started from anywhere in town, but perhaps the best place to begin is the Carhenge Parking Lot which offers free all-day parking. From here you’ll hop on the River Trail which quickly turns into the Valley Floor Trail as it heads generally west.

You’ll walk near the San Miguel River for a while, with a couple of nice viewpoints. Eventually the trail comes to a junction with the Boomerang Road. Here you can turn right and cross the bridge over the river. You’ll have great views across the valley to the east and to the towering wall of mountains, including Ajax Peak, just beyond Telluride.

You’ll then cross a paved road and turn right on the bike path. Follow the bike path all the way back into town. You’ll then need to pick a side street and walk about three blocks back to the Carhenge Parking Lot, or wherever you first started.
