Tabacon Hot Springs is a private hot springs resort with the comforts provided by a restaurant, showers and bathrooms, while at the same time being in a very natural setting along the springs, which flow through the property filling various pools sorrownded by lush flora. This is a great spot to soak in and relax after a day hike at any of the attractions in the area.

Unlike many hot springs around the world, these do not smell like sulphur. Water in the ground is heated by nearby Arenal Volcano, giving birth the hot springs. Most of the water comes from rain, though, thus there is very little sulphur in it.  There are other hot spring resorts in the area, some less expensive than Tabacon, but this one is highly recommended. The day pass, including lunch and dinner, costs $85. The half-day pass, including either lunch or dinner, costs $70.

Alternatively, it is possible to soak in the warm waters downstream from the resort, on the side of Route 142 just east of the resort. Some locals access that location, though parking is somewhat inconvenient, and getting down to the natural pool requires a bit of scramble on the rocks. If you can afford it, spending a few hours at Tabacon is a choice that you are not likely to regret.
