Big Cedar Ledges is a popular day hike that begins from the easily accessible Woody Gap Trailhead. There’s ample parking here as well as vault toilets and trash cans.

This hike follows the Appalachian Trail northward. The trail stays nestled in the forest as it begins and is an easy stroll at first.

Around Lunsford Gap you’ll begin to gain elevation as the trail makes a series of short switchbacks.

Soon you’ll come to the Big Cedar Ledges Vista. The rocky outcrop makes for a great place to sit and enjoy the fantastic view.

From here you can continue northward on the Appalachian Trail if you desire (although this is the best vista), or return the way you came back to the trailhead.
