When the Snow Pass trial is not groomed, it is popular enough among experienced skiers that there are usually tracks to follow and guide your way.

As you approach Snow Pass itself during the early part of the loop the trail gets increasingly steep. This is far from the steepest section.

As you crest Snow Pass, take a look into the valley below as you'll likely see elk, bison, or both.

There are hot springs that bubble up in the area, making it prime territory or bison to spend the winter. They'll usually get off the trail for you, but not always. If they don't, go around and give them plenty of space.

Be wary of the stream crossing over Glen Creek as you approach the Fawn Pass. Upon this trip, it was very obvious but still tricky to cross in skis. I can imagine it could be more treacherous when concealed with more snow.

As you enter Faun Pass and start heading southbound on the loop, the landscape opens up to easier terrain.

Looking back on the trail skied from the signpost junction where one can choose the route back. The peak shrouded in clouds is Electric Peak, the tallest mountain in the Gallatin Range.

If you opt to take the road back, get ready for some stellar views and icy terrain.
