The Connector Trail begins at the Ballardini Ranch Trailhead and traces the foothills south to the Thomas Creek Trailhead in the Galena area.

The first portion of the trail follows the Loop Trail path in the area near the trailhead.

After forking off of the Loop Trail, the Connector Trail begins a series of switchbacks climbing up the surrounding hills.

The trail leaves the park area and enters National Forest land as it heads into the rugged foothills at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Following the switchbacks, the trail remains relatively level. This makes it a popular route for mountain bikers and trail runners.

The trail passes several peaks. While none of the peaks are on the path, it's not far to head off trail and climb them.

While the final portion into the Thomas Creek Trailhead follows a jeep road, the pinnacle of the hike lies while the path is still single track, where panoramic views of all of Reno can be seen.
