Encompassing 195 acres on the south side of the Gualala River estuary, Gualala Point Regional Park is a worthy side stop for both the casual and committed nature enthusiast. Bordered by ocean, beach, river, and coastal forest, the park offers a diversity of ecosystems to explore. Depending on the time of year, is also a great lookout for spotting whales as they migrate along the northern California coast.
A network of trails explores bluff tops, meadows, and the aptly named Whale Watch Point in addition to providing access to Gualala Point Beach and the river estuary. The beach forms a barrier to the Gualala River for much of the year until winter storms and heavy rain increase flow and break through the sand that spills out to the ocean.
Gualala Point Regional Park includes a visitor center with rotating nature exhibits and a campground, and it is also a popular access point for river recreation activities including kayaking, stand-up paddling, and catch-and-release fishing.
