The Water Trail, signed in blue, is one of several hiking trails that begins at the Hotel Husafell. About 6 kilometers in length, the trail leaves the hotel from its lower entrance and traces a stream before branching off into a looped portion. While the first section of the trail tends to follow wide flat gravel paths, once it branches the trail quickly heads into a wooded area on a single trail.

Blue-striped trailmarkers do a pretty good job of marking the trail, though the Hotel Husafell also offers free trail maps of the area, which would be helpful for some of the intersections. There are no amenities along the hike, though all amenities are available at the Hotel Husafell.

Rolling over the terrain, some of which is volcanic stone, the trail passes several historical features, indicated with signs, as well as an area where quite a few freshwater springs surface and run into the adjacent creek. The highlight of the hike comes at the far end, where it meets up with the Hvitá River and overlooks Hundava∂sfoss Waterfall, a series of roaring drops totalling about 4 meters in height.
