The Valley View Loop is an excellent short snowshoe opportunity near Sun Valley Resort. The trail offers stunning views over the course of the 1.6 mile loop. To access the trail, park at the large parking area in front of the Sun Valley Resort Lodge, then follow the paved walkway across Sun Valley Road to the start of the White Clouds Trail system. You’ll see a large information board with maps of the trail system here.

You’ll then set off on the Valley View Loop. The trail is signed in places and usually well traveled during the winter, so you should have a footpath to follow. Snowshoes may not be needed depending on conditions. Note that it can be easy to loose the trail in places or follow a footpath in the wrong direction, so pay attention!

Hiking counterclockwise you’ll parallel above the road for awhile before curving to the left and ganging some elevation. Continue climbing as the trail then loops around. If you hit a groomed nordic ski trail you’ve gone too far and missed the curve.

The trail then heads in a southerly direction with some great views toward Bald Mountain. You’ll eventually hit a junction then descend back down to where you began the loop.
