Another beautiful beach along the western shore of Whidbey Island, Libbey Beach lies within the boundaries of Fort Ebey State Park. A short trail from the parking area leads down to the pebbly beach. Dramatic southern views toward the Olympic Peninsula make this stretch especially worth a visit. There aren't many amenities here other than restrooms and a few picnic tables, but the natural beauty is the best amenity of all. Share the space with traveling sea mammal pods and listen to the songbirds twittering in the forest along the shore. Binoculars are a great idea for this beach. Do note that fighter jet training departs from the nearby Ault Field, and the noise can be quite disturbing. Along the beach access trail is a Cascadia Marine Trail campsite, which can only be used by those accessing it via boat. For the restless, explore the historic gun batteries elsewhere within Fort Ebey State Park.
