The Soo Locks are a set of locks that allow ships and boats to travel between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. The Soo Locks are located on the Saint Marys River in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The Locks are run and maintained by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The Soo Looks allow freighters over 1,000 feet in length to travel from Duluth, Minnesota to the Lower Great Lakes and on to the Atlantic Ocean. About 7,000 vessels use the Soo Locks each year. The Locks raise or lower vessels 21 feet which is the difference in elevation between Lake Superior and Lake Huron.

The Soo Locks Park allows visitors to get a close view of the Locks. The Park has an observation platform and a Visitors Center. The Visitors Center is closed during the winter. For an even closer look at the Locks, there are tour boats that take passengers through a lock.
