The East Lake Agnes Campsite is one of 94 campsites found along Superior Hiking Trail. This campsite is located by the shores of Lake Agnes on a small peninsula. This is a scenic campsite, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing colors. The closest road to the campsite is the Caribou Trail (County Road 4) which is north of the town of Lutsen. The site is about a mile west of the Caribou Trail. This campsite has space for 5 or 6 tents and it can also accommodate hammocks.

There are no permits or reservations required for any campsite along the Superior Hiking Trail. There is an open-air backcountry latrine across the trail from the campsite. This site has many roots that those tenting will have to deal with. There is a rock fire ring that has benches nearby for seating.

Some Superior Hiking Trail camping rules to be aware of include:

  • Stay at designated campsites only. Camping at trailheads is not allowed.

  • All campsites must be shared. Make room for other campers.

  • Keep in mind that most campsites along the Superior Hiking Trail are designed to accommodate less than 10 people.

  • Make use of the backcountry latrine near campsites whenever possible. If a latrine is full or no latrine is available, bury human waste as deep as possible and at least 200 feet from any water source.

  • Fires must be built in the designated fire rings only. Never burn garbage! Before heading to sleep make sure the fire is completely out. Abide by any burning bans that are in effect.

  • Dogs are welcome on the Superior Hiking Trail, but must be kept on a leash no matter how well trained they are.

  • Secure your food by using a bear canister or bear-bag.

  • Leave the campsite in better condition than you found it.
