The Lower Campground is one of two drive-in campgrounds at Lake Carlos State Park. The Lower campground is located right by Lake Carlos just southwest of the park office. This campground has a total of 74 sites. There are 59 sites that have electric hookups with a mix of 30-amp service or 50-amp service. There is one wheelchair accessible site with electricity in the Lower Campground. The campground does have some trees so most of the sites have partial shade. The sites in the Lower Campground are very close together so don’t expect much privacy. The big advantage the Lower Campground has over the more spacious Upper Campground is that it is right by Lake Carlos. In fact, boats can be beached and tied off right by the Lower Campground. In Lower Campground only one camping unit per site (1 camper or 1 tent) is allowed.
Each site has a fire ring and a picnic table. Firewood is available for sale at the park office. All the sites in the campground are back-in sites and many can accommodate RVs up to 50 feet in length. Dogs on a leash are allowed in the campground, except in the restroom.
The campground has two bathroom and shower buildings. There is a dump station that serves both campgrounds that is usually available for use from mid-May through mid-October. The campground is open year-round, but the bathroom and shower buildings are only open during the warmer months. Drinking water is available year-round from a frost-free potable water hydrant in front of the solar panel by the Visitor Center.
In addition to the camping fees, there is a fee to enter the park; a day use or annual permit can be purchased at the park office. All the sites can be reserved online or by phone. Lake Carlos State Park is a popular park, so camping spots get reserved quickly.
