The Lower Campground is one of two drive-in campgrounds at Temperance River State Park. The Lower Campground is located on the southwest side of the Temperance River. The entrance to the campground is immediately before the bridge over the Temperance River. This campground has a total of 18 sites. None of the sites in the Lower Campground have electric hookups. There are three sites that are tent only cart-in sites. The campground is wooded so most the sites have good shade and the thick vegetation between sites offers privacy. Sites 40, 41, 42 and 44 are quite desirable as they are very close to Lake Superior.

Each site has a fire ring and a picnic table. Firewood is available for sale at the park office as well as from private sellers near the park. There is one pull-through site, the remainder are back-in sites. Some sites can accommodate RVs up to 50 feet in length, but most have a 35-foot pad. Dogs on a leash are allowed in the campground.

The Lower Campground does not have a modern bathroom; there are two vault toilets. One unique feature of the campground is that cold, refreshing spring water flows from a pipe near site 51. There is not a dump station at Temperance River State Park, but the city of Silver Bay, which is 27 miles away, does have a dump station. The campground is open from mid-April until mid-November

Campers can easily access the shore of Lake Superior and the mouth of the Temperance River from the Lower Campground. Many hiking trails and the paved Gitchi Gami State Trail are also accessible from the campground.

In addition to the camping fees, there is a fee to enter the park; a day use or annual permit can be purchased at the park office.  All the sites can be reserved online or by phone. Temperance River State Park is a very popular park, so camping spots get reserved quickly.
