OVERVIEW

The Gary Shell Cross City Trail is a scenic 27.5-mile out-and-back path that stretches across Wilmington, North Carolina, connecting various neighborhoods, parks, and green spaces. DESCRIPTION

Starting at the northern end of the trail at the Eastwood Road/College Road intersection, the trail heads south, offering smooth pavement and wide pathways for easy travel.

One of the highlights of the Gary Shell Cross City Trail is its connection to several parks, including the Empie Park and the Halyburton Park. These spots offer rest areas, picnic tables, and natural areas to explore. Along the way, you’ll also pass the beautiful Greenfield Lake, where you might see kayakers or birdwatchers enjoying the serene waters.

The trail is mostly flat with only slight elevation changes, making it an easy and enjoyable route for people of all ages and abilities. It also connects to other local trails, allowing for easy access to more outdoor adventures in Wilmington.
