The Canjilon Lakes are a series of several small lakes, ranging in size from 2 to 6 acres, that are quite popular with fishermen. The setting is quite scenic and lies at about 10,000’ elevation.

The lakes can be accessed by Forest Road 129. The road of course isn’t accessible to vehicles during the winter months, with summer and fall (especially gorgeous with leaves changing color) being the best times to visit.

There are day use areas, including picnic tables and vault toilets. Of course the main attraction are the lakes which offer good trout fishing. There isn’t much for hiking, with the exception of the Continental Divide Trail that runs near the Upper Lakes.=

There is also camping available, with Canjilon Lakes Campground offering 41 campsites and being open June through September. Note that camp trailers are limited to 22’ in length.
