The Lower Cedar Creek Trail is a 1.8 mile loop that explores the lower portion of the Cedar Creek network of hiking and bicycling trails in the Ruidoso area.
Amongst the easiest and most accessible and friendly paths for hikers and bicyclists to explore the forest trails just outside of the town of Ruidoso, the Lower Cedar Creek Trail combines ease with pleasant views and an enjoyable dirt hiking trail. The trail leaves the parking lot and crosses a small stream before winding up into wooded slopes. These paths are popular, and you'll likely encounter others while on the trail.
Forks tend to be unsigned, and with all the switches and turns, having a navigational aid might be helpful in keeping you on the right course.
With less than 200' of total elevation gain, this is a good path to get out and stretch your legs, however doesn't require the time or ability to hike further up the slopes like several of the other trails throughout the area.
Taking on the Lower Cedar Creek Trail in a counterclockwise direction offers good views over the campground and lower areas, and concludes with a gentle return to the trailhead along the creekside.
There is plenty of parking in two dirt lots at the trailhead, however there is no water or bathrooms at the parking area or along the hike.
