Rattlesnake Springs is an interesting feature located in an isolated section of Carlsbad Caverns National Park that offers numermous picnic benches along with a peaceful and scenic freshwater spring a short walk down a dirt road.

Centered around a natural spring, a series of water transport systems still in use today have led to a lush oasis in a secluded section of the Chihuahuan Desert. Several historic structures remain on site, and the old homestead footprint of the Civilian Conservation Corps beneath a cottonwood grove today is a large picnicking area and is often used by visitors who hope to spot the 300+ bird species that visit the area.

From the picnic area, a half mile flat gravel restricted road leads to the springs, where clear blue water surfaces in a cement pool with a few benches set around it. This spring is the source of all water used at the National Park visitors area, located about six miles away.

Rattlesnake Springs is open for day use. National Park rules apply to this area. A vault toilet and water fountain are located at the parking area.
