The Zumwalt Prairie is the largest grassland of its type in North America. The harsh winters keep the land from being used for agriculture, resulting in a preservation for species of plants not found elsewhere.

There are over a dozen native bunchgrasses on the prairie, over 100 native wildflower varieties, and birds galore. Prepare to see large herds of elk and deer near dusk or dawn as the winter gives way to spring and summer, sending the animals to higher elevations.

Duckett Barn is a part of the Nature Conservancy Preserve. From here you'll see interpretive signs and maps for all trailheads on the nearly 33,000 acres of public land. The entire prairie is about 330,000 acres.
