The beach at Lake Lure is a great place to cool off after hiking or climbing in Chimney Rock State Park during the summer months. There are multiple restaurants and shops across the street from the beach that make this spot an easy place to take families with smaller kids. The beach features a waterpark with dual waterslides that go straight into the lake, picnic areas, and water balloon refill stations and water canons for epic water wars. You can rent kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and canoes from the Lake Lure Washburn Marina. You can also rent pontoon boats and book guided tours from the same location. Movies such as "Dirty Dancing" have been filmed here, and there is even an annual contest to see who can best recreate the lift scene in the lake. The only downside this this great location is that it can't be enjoyed year round.
