Decker Lake is a 52 acre park located just to the southwest of downtown Salt Lake City. The lake is unfortunately located right beside Interstate 215, making traffic noise a nuisance. The waters of Decker Lake are also far from pristine, with visible pollutants and garbage in areas. Aside from this, the lake can be an enjoyable destination without having to leave the city.

A 1.4 mile gravel pathway leads around the lake. It is a great family hike with virtually no elevation change. You can begin the hike at the parking area located off 2770 South. You’ll likely see a few fishermen in this area. The lake is a great place to fish for carp, but you can also catch bass and catfish.

If hiking the trail clockwise, you’ll soon come to the western side of the lake where the pathway parallels the interstate. This is the least enjoyable portion of the trail.

The path then loops around and you’ll cross a small footbridge, then enjoy a portion of paved trail. This section also has the best views out across the lake and to the tall Wasatch Peaks in the distance.

The trail then loops back around to the side of the lake where you began. You’ll see lots of birds including seagulls. Once you reach the parking area the hike is over!
