One of the most popular activities for visitors to Ålesund is to climb the 418 steps to the Aksla viewpoint. The steps start in the Town Park. Partway up the climb, there is a viewing platform known as Byrampen. There are benches for resting located throughout the stairway. Every so often, a step will have a number on it so you can tell how far to have climbed.

Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Ålesund, the ocean, and nearby islands. There is an outdoor restaurant, Fjellstua, located at the top. For those who are not up for climbing the steps, a sightseeing train can be taken to the viewpoint.
